Thyromobile in the Philippines

Thyromobile is a global campaign that works to enhance the thyroid healthcare delivery system in vulnerable communities. The ThyroMobile Philippines Project was launched by Dr. Teofilo O.L. San Luis Jr., Professor of Nuclear Medicine, the Philippines, an advocate for the elimination of iodine deficiency disorders. Dr. Theo has been a leader in contributing work with the Thyromobile.

The ThyroMobile Philippines Project aims to increase awareness of iodine deficiency disorders among the general public and medical professionals and make efforts towards the elimination of iodine deficiency in the Philippines. The Thyromobile campaign in the Philippines is very important as iodine deficiency is still prevalent among pregnant or lactating women in the country.

The Thyromobile van is a vehicle fully equipped to screen for iodine deficiency. Thyroid health delivery consists of diagnostic and therapeutic services which also provide education to pregnant and lactating women on the deleterious effects of iodine deficiency during the course of their pregnancy and on the brain development of the children they are bearing.

As a worldwide patient organization, Thyroid Federation International (TFI), helped in the printing of infographic materials on this MotherBabyIodine initiative for attendees on the value of iodine in human health and optimal nutrition. Expanding this campaign to other parts of the world will bring thyroid specialists and expertise to those who need it the most but cannot receive it due to unavailable resources and inadequate transportation to remote regions.
